Lamaj Reem'a

Lamaj Reem'a

Lamaj Reema’ aka Jamal Jones is a songwriter from the Shreveport, Louisiana. After having played and sung in bands, ensembles, choirs all of his life, he decided in 1995 to become a songwriter like his influences Smokie Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, R. Kelly, Teddy Riley, Pharrell Williams, and Brian McKnight. Thanks to his talent for writing radio-friendly pop songs that connect with audiences with the very first listen; his songs have been receiving a lot of accolades with the public of the southern region of the United States?

A songwriter of instinct, Lamaj Reema’ has a flair for writing catchy songs with innovatively lyrical swagger that leaves the listener moved by the raw emotion evoked in them. Although his roots are firmly placed in mainstream R&B, he draws inspiration from many different lyrical and musical influences. “My style is eclectic…I can write a rock ballad today, and the next a retro jazz melody will come out of me, and I’ll be wondering…where did that come from?”. It is that versality that has landed and opportunity to write “Foolish Me”, a powerful single, that introduce him on the charts in 2003, and that had made publishers interested in him.

Music is not a new passion for Lamaj Reema’ however: after studying the saxophone for eight years, Lamaj
Reema’ started writing songs at the tender age of 17: “I used any artistic medium to express the creativity I would see in my mind. After discovering the saxophone, I’d use anything that made a sound around the house to create ideas to write before I even thought of being a producer!”, he says jokingly. But it wasn’t until joining local Southern Gentlemen at 15? As one of the front singers, that he decided to seriously pursue music as his life dream. For the next several years however, life took him through many travels around the world, he began to document his experiences lyrically, places where he studied and held different jobs. Music, truth be told, was never far from his mind. “I always knew it was a matter of time until I started to write songs again, cause in every city I went, my footsteps would always lead me to other people creating music, like the local store/local pubs, where I discovered new types of music. All those different genres have influenced the songwriter I am today.” Moreover, travelling has made him aware of the huge impact that spoken words in musical formats has on the hearts of men, women, and children of all cultural backgrounds. This has made him deeply committed to being bluntly truthful in the threading of the audio tapestries that the world will hear and be inspired by.

Now back to his new home Houston, Texas – Lamaj Reema’ is sharing his time between enjoying the Life of an entrepreneur and spending plenty of time in the studio where he writes material for himself, his artist under his record label Lamaj Records. He also has been preparing material for other record labels and publishing companies to receive in the near future. Based on the reception of his latest compositions, the future looks promising!
